Someone should check and see if New York state prosecutor Shannon Lucey actually passed the bar. Because if she did, then she became the top contender for our inaugural “Dumbest Prosecutor of the Year”(tm) award.
An “unarmed, emotionally disturbed man” who “was lurching around traffic near Times Square in September” was contacted by two of New York’s finest. Fearing the man was about to pull a gun (of course) these Manhattan coppers took the opportunity to show why they are the “only ones” entitled to carry a piece in NYC: they promptly shot and wounded two bystanders.
Ms. Shannon “Law is Hard” Lucey read the police report of the incident and decided to charge the man with assault, “on the theory that he was responsible for bullet wounds suffered by two bystanders… .”
The Bianchi Cup drop-outs were not charged with anything probably because, hey, they are cops and cops shoot people.
Oh, and did I mention the man the police were trying to kill just happened to be black?
Anyways, one of the police victims hired a real attorney, who with their vast legal experience and scholarship observed:
It’s an incredibly unfortunate use of prosecutorial discretion to be prosecuting a man who didn’t even injure my client,” she said. “It’s the police who injured my client.
Hmmmmm. Can anybody guess why an employee of the government decided to not charge another government employee with a crime against a non-government employee? Coincidence I’m sure.
